Finance & Operations Manager at Spring Street Climate Fund
The new Finance & Operations Manager will play a key role in keeping the organization running smoothly, ensuring that our internal systems are efficient, user-friendly, and aligned with our mission. This person will be responsible for coordinating finance, compliance, and day-to-day operations, working closely with the Managing Director, external accountants, and a small, mission-driven team.
We seek someone who is detail-oriented, systems-oriented, and excited to help build and maintain the operational backbone of a growing nonprofit organization. The ideal candidate will bring experience in nonprofit administration, and will be ready to support both the core team and a small group of fiscally sponsored projects as we grow.
Core Responsibilities:
Finance & Budget Coordination
Serve as the main point of day-to-day contact for our external accountants and bookkeepers
Prepare and share regular financial reports for staff, funders, and the Board
Track grant budgets, deliverables, and reporting deadlines
Manage the processing of all revenue and expenses across the organization
Help monitor the organizational budget in coordination with the Executive Director and Managing Director
Assist with the annual audit and 990 filing by coordinating documentation and communication with auditors
Compliance Operations
Track insurance, registrations, contracts, and other compliance requirements
Manage lobbying reporting and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
Interface with outside legal counsel on compliance questions as needed
Fiscal Sponsorship Support
Support the administrative and financial needs of a small number of fiscally sponsored projects
Communicate regularly with project leads and help them understand financial and reporting processes
Prepare monthly financial reports for fiscally sponsored projects
Human Resources Support
Coordinate hiring and employee onboarding and offboarding
Maintain employee records and support HR documentation
Help manage payroll and benefits processes in collaboration with Managing Director and external providers
Team Support
Support scheduling and logistics for Board and committee meetings
Oversee general office operations, systems, and vendor relationships
Identify opportunities to streamline systems and improve internal workflows
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Essential:
At least 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit operations, finance, or administration
Familiarity with nonprofit budgeting and financial management
Comfort working with spreadsheets, budgets, and administrative tools
An organized, reliable, and detail-oriented approach
Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style
Preferred:
Knowledge of some combination of: HR processes, benefits administration, nonprofit compliance, lobbying compliance, or fiscal sponsorship
Job features:
Salary: $90,000 per year
Full-time position. The position may require very limited evening engagements.
This position is based in New York City and is expected to work from our New York City office at least 3 days per week.
